P34 build continues

Plan is to build this model in spec similar to Belgium GP from 1977. It'll be pretty much OOB build with addition of rain tires, items from Studio27 PE sets and some fuel lines and electrical wires. Made good progress on it during recent weeks. Pretty much all parts, except PE were primed. Painted SG black, aluminium and steel shades on selected parts. Gloss black is also on and parts are waiting for Alcald HPA.

Gloss black and SGB are on MP4/27

Prepared all parts for gloss black base and semi-gloss black. Most of the parts are painted now. I will have to check where gloss black base is not perfect and polish out all imperfections before chrome can be applied.

4th attempt for MP4/25

According to my calculation this is my 4th attempt to get paint right on MP4/25's body. Stripped clear and Alclad, sanded body smooth and got gloss black base on it again.

Some progress on MP4/27

I finally have an update I can report. I could only manage 5-6 hours of modeling time a week since New Year and that makes my progress even slower that it was last year I have finished gluing and putting parts before primer could be applied. Mounted parts on toothpicks (took about 3 hours, btw) and finally sprayed first layers of primer onto most of the parts. I've decided to pre-assemble some winglets for the front wing, as I see assembly after painting to be quite problematic. It's clear on last picture, which parts I've pre-assembled. It's quite likely that body and wing parts will require more preparations and another layer of primer. Chrome paint needs perfect base surface to achieve the effect. So, I will be working on surface preparations for quite a while longer, and there will be not much chance for updates for a while.

Work continues on MP4/27

I've picked up MP4/27 again this weekend. Decided to glue together as many body parts as possible before paint. Because this one is going to be curbside, I've built out almost full body shell. I've use floor as a guide for better alignment. It actually went together better then I've feared. And parts have aligned to each other well enough. I still fear for the version with engine, where I would not be able to glue parts together and panels will have to remain removable. But let's see first if Fujimi actually produces kit with engine, then I'll worry about it, if I decide to buy it. I've also put together nose cone, gearbox and some rear suspension parts, and floor parts.

My first P34 build

This build was actually started sometimes this spring. However I've only worked on it for an hour or two once a month during model club meetings. Couple of weeks ago it was finally moved permanently to my worktable and I've made more progress on it in one night, then in previous 6 or 7 months. Basically all the parts are detached from trees, mould lines removed and I'm doing preliminary test fitting and gluing of some parts before putty and primer. That's a second kit of F1 car powered by DVF engine I'm building. It appears to be nice kits as well, except for assembly of exhaust pipes. There are 4 pipes on each side of the engine and not much in terms of guiding them to their correct positions. Lotus 79 has a much better solution with long exhaust pipes moulded as one assembly right out of the box. Alignments wasn't a problem at all.

I've also removed moulded on parts, which will be replaced with PE items from Studio27 PE set.
